Sari Sari Skies - Changelog 1 for Prototype 1.2

Hello! This is the first dev log of Sari Sari Skies for the second prototype release. We’re really excited to show our progress and we look forward to hear your feedback on this. 

Our focus for this one is additional core features such as shouts, and obstacles. We also did our best to integrate current artist work. 

Features: 

  • World env and beautification 
    • Arti worked hard on learning lighting and practicing placing assets. Through placeholder assets, Arti added additional props in the background to be replaced eventually by our in house assets 
  • Win Condition!! 
    • Level 1 contains a lap system where you must reach the end and touch the trophy box with your kite. It will activate the final trophy box at the other end of the level 
    • Level 1 has a two lap win condition
  • Shouts 
    • The first shout Dagan is implemented with accompanying shout boxes 
    • A speed buff (momentum decay not applied) 
    • Lasts for five seconds
    • Uses placeholder audio
  • Player State Machine and player controller
    • State machine allows for more fine tune adjustments behind the scenes 
    • Player controller is like a brain that controls a player, kite, and shout holder
  • Player Particle effects
    • Added particle effects in running state 
    • Adjusts to the shout
  • Player Audio 
    • Player has audio in the jump made by our own audio artist, Matt
  • Music 
    • BGM audio in the playground made by our own audio artist, Matt
  • Lily! 
    • Our main character Lily is in the game, her sprites don't have animation but you can toggle it on and off in the settings

  • Obstacles 
    • Moving Obstacles
      • Move back and forth and push the player back
      • Note that movement and pushing force are buggy at the moment
    • Wall Obstacles
      • Forces player around them, pushes player back
    • Slow Floor
      • Slows player down when in area
  • Basic Wind 
    • Pushes player back when inside area
    • Note that pushing force is buggy at the moment

Changes: 

  • Player baseline speed from ~1.5 to 2.5 
  • Player Speed Acceleration Changed from 0.05 to 0.085
  • When in full momentum or max speed, you can change direction ONCE 
    • Going back to idle removes this free change direction 
    • When using this one free direction change,  you are locked from receiving free direction changes unless you go to idle 
  • Players do not lose momentum immediately in the idle phase. There is a timer of 0.5 seconds before deducting speed 
  • Players in the state of jumping or falling do not add or lose momentum - whatever the momentum they had before, that is what they are working with
  • Option to enable Lily Sprite
  • Kite follows the player’s y axis movement 
  • Level 1
    • First half updated to reflect comments
      • Less spaces to get stuck in
      • Level is generally easier and adjusted for new movement
    • Added working obstacles
    • Added working shout boxes
    • Second half mostly unchanged but still possible

Bug fixes: 

  • No longer able to spam jumps with the addition of a state machine

TODO: 

Sadly, we were unable to add a tech demo of both the dialogue and AI but rest assured we’ll do our best to include that in the next one.

  • To add Rival AI in the future 
  • Overworld + dialogue 
  • Gliding mechanics
  • Second half of Level 1
  • Fix bugs for obstacles and wind
